Anatomy Of A Downhill Spill

Peter can make almost anything look easy on a dirt bike. Apparently that is not limited to just riding one, but also crashing. I've seen him ride up hills that I couldn't get up without ropes and pulleys, then walk back down and ride my bike up. So when I got him on film doing a fairly slow moving, high sided get off, it seemed like just another day at school. "Watch and learn Sul, heres how you take a spill."

This was in '04 on our way down into Jurassic Park. We had been there a couple of times over the years so the terrain wasn't anything unexpected. It looks like nothin' in the pictures and the video we shot, but this last part of the trail into Jurassic Park is long and steep. My first year coming here, I left my bike at the top of this hill and walked in. I think Ronny and Mike found this place on one of their high speed, "Lets go over the mountain," runs. The woods on the way in smells real old, musty and ancient. It's more than just a smell, you can almost taste old forest. Jurassic Park. Once you come down this hill the scent changes as it opens into a small pine grove, and just beyond that is a good sized lake. We once saw a moose feeding in the lake about half way out to a small island.

Below are some pictures of Peter's "Summer School"

Everything looks go so far.

A little front tire air off the downhill rock.

Big compression on the forks...

Makes for a hard spring back...

Oh, there he goes.

Get up... would 'Ya.

Hey... put that camera down and help me pickup my bike!
