The MX Nationals at Southwick

One thing for sure about this crew is that with brothers, sons and daughters, uncles, cousins and friends, we can all travel together really well. That's an important point when you pack 13 people into what's billed out as a 15 passenger van. If you put 6 or 7 teenagers and a few adults, ( that think they're kids ) into a small, very confined space for a few hours at a time, like say a Van, there's not a lot of room to get away from someone. 'Ya darn well better be able to get along..!


Oh, also you should be able to hold your breath for several minutes at a time. After a hot afternoon at the races, between the draft beer, hot dogs, chile-dogs, cheese burgers, soggy ( bottom of the cooler... sorry Pete ) ham sandwiches, bratwurst and every other gaseous causing food you can carry in or purchase at this type of event, even a BIG van can get ripe. It still takes a few minutes to clear the air with all the windows open wide.


Most of these guys were rooting for Ricky Carmichael. I of course, went the other way and hooted for the underdog, James Bubba Stewart. We saw him race at Unadilla a couple years ago when he was still running in the 125 class. Man he was smooth..! Once I saw him race, I predicted that when he moved up to the 250 class, he'd give RC a run for the money. So naturally I want to be right. ( Again... as always )
But Bubba seems to be kind'a crash prone lately. "Stay up would Ya..?"





There's Stewart in the first moto, which he won. The picture on the right is of Carmichael giving chase. And yes... he's so fast, he rode right out of the picture. He caught and passed up Bubba late in the race and then at some point on the track, while out of our sight, he must have faltered. Bubba had a good size lead when he came back around and that's how he took the first moto. Carmichael won the second one. We started heading out durring the last moto with a few laps to go. RC had a good ten second lead and we heard later at a road side stop that Bubba had crashed. "At least stay up! Would 'Ya..?"
